Hello!

Image
Hello! I just wanted to share another type of puppets I did with my students. In this case they had to create themselves and talk about their family with their classmates.

Hey!

Hey! I was wondering if you guys had some suggestions about some community builders for 6-9 year-old kids. My kids seem to be really mean to one of the kids in class and I want them to be more inclusive. Any suggestions?

Task 2

Task 2 I have never taught writing to children and in the level I am teaching right now the kids are too young to read or write; thus, I cannot do writing activities. However, I love writing! I believe there is a strong connection between the writer and the reader. Even if you lack a reader, there is a connection from the writer to the text. Therefore, I wanted to talk about writing and the strategies I would apply if my kids knew how to read and write. I believe that I already have an advantage being such an advocate for writing. I believe in writing and the benefits it brings when you are able to clearly express your ideas through text. Thus, I have the possibility of giving my students the "writing bug". When designing an activity, I generally would think about the topics they like to talk about and what they have been really excited to share. With kids in particular, I believe that one of the most important things is to make it appealing for them. If you can make it appea...

Task 3

Task 3 1. How long does it take to see the result of affective language learning in students? 2. What are the 5 most important activities to implement in a classroom to show affective language learning? 3. How can affective language learning be applied to stop bullying? 4. What to do to stop name-calling? 5. Does affective language learning have any possible relation with positive reinforcement? 6. Is there any research regarding affective language learning? 7. How to go about showing affection without being able to speak their mother tongue? 8. What can you do when students get frustrated because they can't perform in the language? 9. How can we turn evaluation into an affective stage of the lesson too? I know that we cannot skip testing, so how do we make it affective too? 10. How is affective learning perceived by parents?

Task 1

Task 1 What aspects are important in your opinion to take in consideration when planning a storytelling activity?  Yesterday was the first time I have had an  storytelling activity in class. So I waited to do it to know what could be useful feedback to keep in my for next time. Now I know that 1 students need a little bit more build up to enter the story time world. Also, ss need to be more part of the experience than just listeners; so, it would be useful to think ahead of some role they can participate on. Lastly, I would say that planning wisely on the time aspect would be beneficial. This is all very new for me but I am very willing to learn and try out new things. How do they affect the moment in which we are with our students?  -I believe every moment where we are showing our students how much we care and how much we want to do things with them shows. I can asure my students appreciate all the efforst in making them a big part of the learning process and knowing how to do these ...

Here is the picture of my students' puppets. They reviewed before the quiz asking each other questions. However, I still feel I need more information in this area to be able to do it more comfortably next time.
Hey! I was wondering if somebody could help me with the difference between storytelling and reading a story.

Task #3: Building puppets with students for a specific purpose. As I mentioned before, we have been talking about animals and nature in class. Therefore, I have selected animal stick puppets. Besides talking about nature, last class we covered the use of where. So, ss can create their puppets and then walk around asking each other "Where is the bird?" "It's in the tree." Since my classes are only on Saturday afternoon, I will try to upload a picture on Sunday.

Task #3

Task #3 Hey! Where I work I am also not allowed to take pictures of my students and I had been debating what to do because I didn't want to flake out on the assignment. I really enjoy taking pictures, so having two assignments that involved pictures was just perfect! I ended up choosing these three pictures of my students work. We have been learning about nature and I have been trying to bring to class experiences where they can have textures and movement at the same time. I believe Affective Learning is a lot about stepping at the students level, getting to walk on their shoes, and having fun while learning. Therefore, these pictures represent three moments in class where my kids have in one way or another said how much they enjoy being in class. 1. Because they got to paint on the floor with their fingers and tempera paint. 2. Because they got to freely express their ideas with a 5 minute silent drawing time. 3. Because they got to get messy with glue and paint and colors.

Task #1

Task #1 Hi! I hope all of you are doing great! Everyday object: Plastic eggs Goal:To tell stories about their vacations Target language:Past tenses Instructions: 1. Put inside the plastic eggs the verbs you want to practice. 2. Ss stand in a circle and T plays music. The ss pass the eggs around like in "Hot Potatoe" 3. When the music stops, the ss that have the eggs have to open them, get a verb out, and make a sentence talking about their vacations in past tense.

Task #1

Task #1 -What do you understand by affective language learning? R/To my understanding, affective language learning is all about making it a student-centered learning environment. Not only in making them speak and use the language, but also in making them the decision-makers regarding almost all aspects in class. It is a very empowering environment for learners. It makes them the whole focus of the class. And all of this is done while maintaining a positive ambiance where students feel loved and accepted and encouraged. All in all it sounds like the best learning environment. I quite hope I can learn to provide it for my students. -What are some ways that you can foster it next week? R/All of the ideas in the video are so great! However, I do believe that I can't put them all in practice at once; thus, I am going to implement 4 new things and see how that goes. 1.The first thing that I plan to include next class in circle time. I want to allow them to have a place to express their t...

Hi!

Hi! Hope all of you are having a great week! I am going to start with Task #3. The video is about circle time. Before Sunday's session I had not heard of circle time, and I did not know the benefits of it. It intrigued me since Sunday which is why I chose to do this task first. Regarding the two questions, -What are the benefits of having circle time with English language learners? R/I believe circle time will allow them to have a safe place to express themselves. Not only will in foster public speaking, but it will also develop team work which in my particular case seems to be necessary. My students only meet on Saturdays and some of them do not feel entirely comfortable speaking and expressing their ideas. It will also help with the class mood and to show students how important they are. I liked the idea someone mentioned on Sunday about starting with positive thoughts. I believe this will truly help students who feel rejected or left out because they are different. I am looking ...

Hello! :)

Hello! :) It's so good to join! I am very excited about the course! My name is Carolina and I am from San José, Costa Rica. I have been an English teacher for around 8 years. All through those years I've had some group of young learners. I love teaching kids and how energetic and eager they are about learning. In addition, I work as a curricular developer and I am in charge of the kids and teens program. I look forward to learning a lot. The more I read, the more I look forward to it!
