Hi everyone, I would like to share my affective goodbye to my students in the practicum. I chose a special course of students who are in an improvement program because they have repeated course. They can be difficult to handle at times but everything turned out great. I had told them that I had chosen THEM and that I trusted them. These cakes are called "palmeras gigantes" and have become very popular in Spain for parties. One student had said that he would like to have one the last day, and they really deserved it, so I ordered this one with a thank you message. The last day they were doing the exam, and when everyone was finished, I brought it in. They were so excited!! Hi Carolina. Try to put this student under positive focus. For example assign him to do the things that the rest of the students like. This can be being your assistant in distributing papers or writing some thing on the board and always ask them to clap their hands for him.
ReplyDeleteTry also to talk to them individually and motivate them to be nice to him by giving them candies or anything you think they will enjoy. It can also be spiritual motivation.
Thank you very much Maha!
ReplyDeleteHi Carolina!
ReplyDeleteGreat that you have reached out to the group asking for help. That's already a way of building our own community.
I personally like to work on the issues indirectly through stories and by projecting some of the things that are happening on the puppets. You can also use the wrap up moment to talk about things that have happened during the class. I will soon write a post about it and I will certainly let you know.
Affective learning involves exactly what you are doing, which is planning for students to get along with each other as well. We learn better when we feel loved and able.
Way to go, Carolina!
Juan
