Task 3: circle time.
Task 3: circle time.
1- benefits: I believe there are a number of benefits. It's a chance for the shy students to develop confidence as it's a safe time for them to make mistakes because it's not about the language, it's about them. It's a personal stage so they can say as much as they want even 1 word and no one will blame them. It's also a chance for them to make new friends in the class apart from the one sitting next to them by seeing what they have in common.for example, if they get to know who practices the same sports or like the same food. Another benefit will be for the strong students, who we try our best not to let them dominate the class. This is their chance again to speak their heart out without being stopped by the teacher.
Personally, I have never done the greeting part before anoon this will be the first thing I try in my next class after 2 weeks.
Challenges: it can be time consuming when we have too many students and the class is only an hour and half or 2. Some students might get upset or even feel inferior if they don't have an experience to share under the topic of the circle time, maybe they don't do sports or they have family problems so they don't want to talk about any personal things. Some students might continue to feel shy for some time especially if they don't know how to express themselves in a second language.
That's all for now.

I agree with you Maha. There are more pros than cons!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. It is hard when they are shy.
ReplyDeleteHi Maha. Shy kids are such a challenge!
ReplyDeleteWe have to offer a wide different options to make the circle time appropriate in order to see which environment is the best for the kid.
Maha,
ReplyDeleteI agree that this is a moment in which we can help them make friends. Choosing the theme is also important not to expose students who might not have had that experience. Thinking about these aspects and how our students will feel is certainly affective learning planning!
