Discussion Task 1 Part A

Discussion Task 1 Part A
I recently tried out this activity and it worked well in the classroom; it is using the humble cardboard box. I was inspired by the story book Not A Box.
Goals or Aims:
In this lesson, the children will:
·         Revise shapes (circle, triangle, square and rectangle)
·         Draw a picture using a shape.
·         Describe that picture to a partner
Target Language
·         I think it’s a……
·         It’s not a circle! It’s a…..
·         I like your picture because…..
Instructions
·         T: What is it? S: A box T:It’s not a box. It’s a…… (mime different things with the box)
·         T: Watch the story Not a Box and tell me the box is.
·         T: Guess what I’m drawing. It’s not a circle.
·         T: Draw your It’s not a circle. Give out handout with blank shapes.
          T: You have 5 minutes
·         Get some students to take the role of teacher and choose the shape they want to use for their drawing and draw it on the board. Other students guess what it is
·         In pairs students describe their picture and other students give feedback.
·         T: What did we do today? What did we learn?

  2. That story is simply lovely, Damien!
I really like the story because, as Carolina said, it is simple, sweet and it invites students to come up with their own ideas. And there are so many things we can do with boxes!

It reminds me of Christmas days in which children had much more fun with the boxes than with the presents!
