DISCUSSION TASK 3
The school I work at has a fixed planning that teachers have to follow strictly. So, unfortunately,I couldn't create the puppet from the video. On the other hand, I managed to create another puppet, which is way simpler, and students had tons of fun.
They had a fixed model I drew on the board. They had to draw it on the paper, and decorate as they wished. The outcome was great.
They are learning the basics of the verb to be, greetings, numbers and colors. They have already learnt some food vocab. So, to make learning more meaningful, they had to create a stick puppet and perform a dialogue.
To rehearse the dialogue, I used the fishbowl technique. I invited one student to perform the dialogue with me, then with one friend and then return to their pairs and perform it among themselves. They absolutely loved making new names, giving their puppets the final touch and performing in group. We did the choral repetition in a big circle.
Dialogue
PROCEDURE: teacher elicits from students the questions and answers to the dialogues. Then the teacher lets stds organize the dialogue. (You can organize the dialogue with slips of paper, write on the board...). Then, the tecaher checks if there is anything misplaced. After checking, T rehearses the dialogue and using the fishbowl technique,T performs the dialogue in front of students to are sure they understood what they had to do. In the end, T delivers feedback praising their performance

Sounds great Danilo, but what is a fishbowl technique?
ReplyDeleteMaha Zakaria the fishbowl technique is when you invite one or two studs to perform the task with you and the others just watch. It is also a way of giving the instructions to a task. By employing this technique, studs know exact what to do
ReplyDeleteOh I see. I never knew we call it that way. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHey Danilo,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great experience! As you have demonstrated in your post, puppets do not have to be very complicated to engage students. The beauty is in how they create the personality of the characters with their voices and movement. We can even draw two eyes and a mouth on a finger and already have a very expressive puppet.
As you have pointed out, giving clear instructions and demonstrating these is essential to affective learning. When instructions are not clear, students tend to think that they are not good at the language.
FUNtastic!
