Discussion task #2: Introducing puppets and engaging learners
A bit of puppetry; I think I need to work on not moving the puppets mouth when I'm speaking and sound a bit more lively! How can Norton get home?
Wow!!!! Wow!!!
ReplyDeleteYou got me really curious and excited here about how Norton was going to get back to Australia, Damien.
Your story and video and both very interesting and engaging. Going back home certainly relates to all os us. You also build up lovely suspense in the plot resolution by talking about ways in which Norton can go home. The music, background, and the magic in the end are real treats!
I can give you some hints to guide you in your puppeteering. Remember it is an art, these are just to give you more possibilities in your repertoire.
You can start by showing Norton and he shows he is scared. He can make repetitive gutural sounds. You can look at him and then at the audience showing you do not know what to do.
A great way to get students' attention is have variations in the way we talk. Make sure you play with speed, volume, and pitch.
Pay atention to when you are talking and when the puppet is talking in regards to moving the puppet's mouth. The puppet's mouth only moves when he is talking.
One last suggestion is to think of a catchphrase that you can have Norton saying over and over. Then students will say it when you cue them.
Keep on with your puppeteering videos! We can even work together to do one of Buddy interviewing Norton!
Hugs to you, fellow puppeteacher!!!
