Discussion task #1: Getting ready for storytelling

Discussion task #1: Getting ready for storytelling

In my opinion, first of all, the teacher has to choose a story according to the students' age, level of English and interests. Because of children's short span of attention, the activity should not only include auditory, visual but also kinesthetic elements.
Teachers should engage them in the process,  they should feel that they belong to the story , by asking questions, participating... That is what will trigger their imagination. Fostering curiosity in students also make them eager to know what the story is about and what will happen next. They  don't get bored.
I have a special place in my classroom where the storytelling takes place where students can sit down on the floor and feel more comfortable to listen to the story. I wish I could have cushions there :)

  1. Hi Núria!

Making them feel they belong to the story. This sentence says it all. It is in the meeting of the story with students' life that the magic happens. Playing with the different moments, imagining different possibilities, and talking about the story are precious moments that many times are lost.

In Waldorf schools the same story is told to students everyday for a month as a way for them to internalize the language and lessons present in the narrative.

Take a picture and share with us the cozy place where you tell your students stories. Whenever you can, ask your students how they like the storytelling moments. You will certainly gain important insights from their point of view. Make sure to share them with us!

Stories, stories, let them come, let them go...
