Task #2
Task #2
The interview was with Damien Herlihy from Thailand. As we have to write one post per pair, I will start with the general introduction and Damien will write the rest.
It was great to have worked with Damien. First of all because I had never had direct contact with an Australian English Speaking Person/Teacher so it was perfect!
I believe that our 40-minute chat via Skype was kind and full of learning for both. I started explaining him how the Argentinian Education System is and then Damien asked questions about what I do in class.
He stack more to the rules as he asked me about the affective way of teaching and I did more general questions. We both learnt about our context, aims and school situation.
Damien... the floor is yours! You have to go on! :)

Sure. I learnt a lot about the public teaching system in Argentina. I like the fact that individual states have control over their own syllabus rather being centrally controlled at the federal level.
ReplyDeleteMaria teachers a range of students from 10 years old up to 19 years old. She also gets involved with the parents to try and show them what they are learning through studying English. This is important as English is an elective subject in her context.
With affective teaching she tries to create a community feel with the older students where they bring in food and drink. This creates a positive atmosphere in the classroom. Maria also had some great ideas for teaching affectively which posted under Discussion Task 1. I really like the "sh" bottle. It was pleasure speaking to a colleague in another teaching context which I was unfamiliar with. See you all tonight.
Dear Maria and Damien,
ReplyDeleteI am SO happy that you had the chance to connect as you are both creative and energetic teachers.
In order for us to live affective language learning it is important for us teachers to be surrounded by affect in how we relate to our peers, school staff, and the students' families.
Affective relationships bring respect, trust, transparency, and commitment which are essential to working together.
I have learned a lot and grown professionally because of my PLN (Personal Learning Network) specially because we make real friends that are ready to share ideas and help us with suggestions. It is also great fun to be able to learn about other learning contexts and connecting our students through Skype.
Hugs to both of you!
Thanks Damien Herlihy and Juan Uribe for all this! I am learning a lot with you all! :)
